Playing VS Running

Lessons Learnt from Both Styles

Being a Game Master is so much fun. It lets you run all your wildest ideas, tell your stories, and see your friend's live out their dreams as players. The best way to build on your GMing capabilities is practice; and what better way to practice then to be a player as well.

There are so many things you can learn from understanding the mind of a player. It helps keep your session run times accurate, keeps your combat realistic, and makes you remember that being the GM doesn't mean you exist to make your players characters in your story.

Your job as the GM is to let the PCs explore the world you made. Their decisions are their own, and you should never hinder the progress they make just because you don't like the direction the story is going. Try to remember how you feel as a player, and it will make you a better GM!

Amazing character art from my friend Bucocopie on VGen! I highly recommend reaching out to him for all time periods of character art.

I have been playing Cyberpunk Red for a few years now. Being a GM and Player is great practice for both roles.
